Hoopoe Lark
Hoopoe Lark is one of the most impressive and at the same time rarest breeding birds of Israel. As a result of a survey conducted by the Israeli Ornithological Center (IOC) several territories of Hoopoe Larks - or Alemon in Hebrew - were found in the most remote areas of the Arava Valley in southern Israel in spring 2009, many territories are situated along the Israeli-Jordanian border and comprise territory of both countries. An encounter with this bird belongs to the most impressive experiences of nature possible. Although its melancholic song in the sandy or rocky deserts can be heard from far it can be hard to actually discover the singing male, that may perform from an elaborated post or while doing a spectacular flight manoever or just walking through his territory. Once located these huge larks are relatively approachable and are not shy at all.
